Introduction for Ferro Silicon Alloy
Ferro Silicon Alloy is using coke, steel chips and quartz (or silica) as raw materials, after high temperature reduction of 1500-1800 degrees, silicon melts in molten iron to form ferro silicon.
Characteristics for Ferro Silicon Alloy
1. Since silicon and oxygen are easily synthesized into silicon dioxide, It’s often used as a deoxidizer during steelmaking. At the same time, since SiO2 emits a lot of heat when it is generated, It’s also beneficial to increase the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing.
2. Ferro Silicon Alloy can also be used as an alloying element additive, and it is widely used in low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel. It’s often used as a reducing agent in the production of ferro alloys and the chemical industry.
3. Ferro Silicon Alloy is used as inoculant and nodulating agent in cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, has excellent casting properties and much better earthquake resistance than steel. In particular, the mechanical properties of ductile iron are as good as or close to those of steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon in cast iron can prevent the formation of carbide in iron, promote graphite precipitation and spheroidization, so in the production of nodular cast iron, ferro silicon is an important inoculant (to help precipitate graphite) and spheroidization agent.
4. Used as reducing agent in ferro silicon alloy production. Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is great, but also the carbon content of high silicon ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high silicon ferrosilicon (or silicon alloy) is a more commonly used reducing agent in the ferroalloy industry to produce low carbon ferroalloy.
